Clyne Heritage Society

Lectures

During the winter months the Society organises evening lectures, which are usually held in the Brora Community Centre at the rear of Brora Primary School, unless otherwise advised. All talks begin at 7.30pm and most are held on a Thursday. Lectures are open to all and there is usually a raffle (donations always welcome) - refreshments and admission are free. Anyone wishing to join the Society will be made particularly welcome.

  • February 16th, 2017 – Remembering 'Oor Ain Folk': more from our War Memorial
Morag Sutherland and Ellen Lindsay - Brora. Continuing their research on the names on our Clyne Parish War Memorial, Morag and Ellen will share their research on the men from the Second World War and the Gulf War.
Morag has long had a keen interest in what she calls her ‘Brora Boys’, the men from Clyne Parish who are commemorated on the Clyne War Memorial.
Ellen, a professional genealogist who has teamed up with Morag, has brought her expertise to the project in finding a great deal more background information about the men.

Nick has been researching the local history of the area for over 20 years, the last 16 years of which he has been Chairman of Clyne Heritage Society, and has amassed a wealth of stories, facts and photographs of the village and village life in the 200 years of Brora's existence.
