Highland Archaeology Fortnight/Scottish Archaeology Month

The Society is heavily involved in guided walks and talks of the archaeology of the parish. Each year it makes a contribution to the above events and these are always popular.

2006 walk

This year’s Highland Archaeology Fortnight event took place on Sunday October 8th, when the walk was to Kilphedder township in Strath Brora. Those who attended were able to see the fascinating remains of a long-lived pre-clearance township, which has many longhouses, kilns, enclosures, cairns and field boundaries, as well as a still site, a mill site and areas of run rig. On the way back, there was an opportunity to see the areas of previous Bronze/Iron Age habition, including hut circles, cairns and burnt mounds.
